Travel - Flights:
For those who wish to fly this summer L'Olmo is served by airports at Florence, Pisa and Bologna. Florence airport is about one hour away and Pisa and Bologna about an hour and a half. For intercontinental guests we suggest using European gateway cities such as London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Milan and Rome. with connecting flights to Florence. We can assist with the logistics of all flight options.
Travel - Trains:
For those wishing to arrive in Florence by train the Eurostar service throughout Italy is very fast and inexpensive. You can arrive in Florence by train from other European cities connecting through Milan or Turin. There is an excellent local train service into Florence from our local station, Contea/Londa which takes 40 mins.
Car Rental/Hire:
We recommend using reputable international car rental companies and thoroughly checking the small print for any excesses and extras to be paid locally. Locally the best options are to be found at Florence Airport but there are also car rental companies located near Santa Maria Novella railway station in the centre. However driving in Florence centre can be challenging if you are not used to it. Either way we will provide detailed directions to L'Olmo including SatNav info. Personally we use Waze and find it works very well in Italy.
Distances:
The village of Londa is 10 minutes by car, and other local villages of interest include Dicomano, Vicchio and Rufina are all reached within 20 minutes. Florence is one hour by car or local train service. Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, Lucca and Arezzo are all recommended to visit and can easily reached by car.
Coast/Beach:
L'Olmo is approximately 2 hours by car from either coast. The best beaches are at Viareggio on the Mediterranean coast and Rimini on the Adriatic coast.
Further Details:
We can arrange visits and tastings at local wineries; lessons in Tuscan cooking, hand painting pottery and many other activities by request. For bikers there is a very good local shop where you can rent road and mountain bikes very reasonably by the day or week.
All this information will be found in our House Book and we are always on hand to provide advice and guidance on local travel, activities, markets and shopping. We want to make your L'Olmo experience as enjoyable and stress free as possible so please do not hesitate to ask us anything at any time.
